Community College

I'm excited to be going to school again, but I feel a bit odd because I'm attending a local community college. I'm only taking online classes, so it's not like I'm physically going there. But after attending 2 other community colleges and 2 other universities, it just feels odd to be going back to school in this way. Being married to the Army has made it so insanely difficult to complete my degree. I have tons of credits, both general education and elementary education, but none of them match up because they are from so many different places. I finally decided that I needed to get something completed, even if that just means getting my associate's for now.

Now don't think for a minute that it was an easy decision. Going on numbers alone, I have enough credits for a bachelor's degree, but at this point it would take about 2 more years to get them to all match up and complete that degree. PLUS, it means I would have to do student teaching and that's not something I want to do at this point because I don't want to put Jax is day care. So, that being said, I'm attending Fayetteville Technical Community College and working on my associate's degree in general education. Luckily, I only have about 16-18 credits to take, which I'm splitting up over two semesters. So hopefully by next spring I will have my degree. Once that's complete, my bachelor's will be on hold until further notice. It's just too hard figuring things out at this point. I'm looking forward to actually completing something. It's been weighing on my mind and it'll be so nice to have a degree in my hand... even if it is just from a community college!

  1. I totally hear you! I lived in four places over five years, so with each move I lost credits! But I completely agree that having a degree is invaluable. Esp since Ryan might not extend and anything could happen to Chase. Plus, having a job skill instills pride and a means to get out of the house and help support the fam. I am thinking somewhere around her 3mo. mark I'm going to start up my U of P classes again. I'm considering this break from the world while we're here in Germany as an opportunity to be a SAHM and work on finishing my degree over the next three years. It's more time than I need, but life happens! So in essence, you go girl!

  4. Great idea, Jenna!! My neighbor took classes there and really enjoyed them. I am sure you will do just great.

Let me know if you ever need me to watch Jax for you.

Oh, we finally found a church!! It is so wonderful and I couldn't be happier about FINALLY having a church home.

Hope all is well with you!
